Bringing Back the Love of Reading Books
Bookworm
I used to be a bookworm. I walked on streets to and from school, inside buildings, up and down stairs, with an open book in my hands. Walking and reading simultaneously was my superpower. I swallowed one book after another, still hungry for more.
The characters’s adventures drew me in. I became the heroine and lived through the lives of others. Especially adventure books and fairytales infused me with perseverance and dreaming big.
I was an avid reader before fancy cell phones with unlimited internet and email access came into my life. My attention was redirected and hooked into the digital world of convenience.
My Reading Desire and Goal
I want to bring the love of book reading back. I read six books last year plus another ten halfway through while taking active notes and keeping track of my progress on the Bookmory App. Finishing six books was massive progress for me.
So, in 2024, I aim to read 12 books a year, which seems doable with one book a month.
I have everything I need to achieve this goal. No more just admiring paper treasures on my bookshelves but reading them, delving into the worlds of others, and absorbing their wisdom and knowledge.
Reading Nook: A Dream Come True
To inspire myself to read, I wanted to create a cozy reading space.
My husband gifted me a foldable chair for my reading nook. Most of the time, my cats occupy it, cuddling each other.
Sometimes, I coax them to empty my chair so they can lie on my lap instead. LOL. I love my furry reading companions.
Having a reading nook is the motivational start that I need.
Part of my daily ritual is to read inspirational books and books on writing before I start work in the morning or throughout the day with a cup of my favorite aromatic jasmine green tea.
Reading more physical books allows me to spend less time online and rest my eyes from the screen.
Memoirs Steal My Heart
Since I started writing my memoir, my focus has been on books about memoir writing, mastering the craft, and the memoirs of others. Untamed by Glennon Doyle, It’s in Your Dreams by Jaclyn Sanipass, They Called Me Starchild, and The Would-Be Medium, both by Rena Huisman, to name a few.
I’m reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It keeps me turning pages and reading about the author’s heart-wrenching but adventurous childhood.
What are you reading? Do you have any memoir suggestions that touched your heart? Please leave a comment below, and let’s start a conversation.
Just picked up Grimorie Girl by Hilarie Burton Morgan and I’m really looking forward to reading that! Recent great reads were The Midnight Library and The Enchanted Hacienda. I also use to be a self proclaimed bookworm and have found myself missing that part of me. I am also setting myself a goal for this year!
Hi Ingrid. Thank you so much for stopping by and giving great reading suggestions. I can’t wait to check out these books. So excited about your reading goal.
