Be Spontaneous by Breaking Your Routine Once in a While

“Be spontaneous, be creative, go out and have fun, let things happen naturally.” ~ Conor McGregor

Don’t you want to add adventure to your life? Are you tired of doing the same routine – waking up, going to work, coming home, going to sleep, then repeating?

Sometimes, we get into a particular way of doing things and routines because they feel familiar and safe. However, changing your routine and getting out of your comfort zone are important.

Be spontaneous, flexible, and adventurous. Doing something different can recharge your mind, show a new perspective, bring joy, and allow you to reconnect with yourself and others. So when you return to your comfortable old routines, you feel slightly changed.

I love my life and my husband because of the surprises they both bring.

Last weekend we were supposed to drive to Philadelphia, PA, to see the autumn foliage. However, less than 24 hours before our trip, I received a text to check in online for my flight to LA. What!? Surprise! And to make it more challenging – we found out at the last minute that the family was coming to stay at our home while we planned to be away. Yep, that’s life!

The LA trip was a lovely escape from the cool weather and my unstoppable desire to work on my book, write, study, or paint. I like to be busy, but rest and play are musts.

Our trip was full of spontaneity.

Our unexpected visit amazed my husband’s big family, especially his nephew and niece. We gave a break to their parents by taking them to a playground, then to inflatable castles. It was a joy to have them to ourselves: seeing their cheerful faces receiving toys from us and eating creeps full of sweets for the first time

For the rest of our time, we played our trip by ear. We found activities like Knott’s Scary Farm (Halloween is my hubby’s favorite time), the Museum of Love (we connected even deeper for 5 hours with interactive activities), and a scavenger hunt in Hollywood with Urban Adventure Quest. I love unplanned trips!

Those experiences highlighted my weekend and brought sparkles of inspiration into my life. It was a gift to spend quality time with my beloved and fall in love again. 😉

Try something new today:

  • Take a day off and have fun. Head to the beach, woods, spa, or museum.
  • Take a different road to your work or a doctor’s appointment.
  • Learn something new. Take a pottery class or attend a paint night. Enroll in online courses or do something in-person.
  • Work out, try new classes at your gym, or take a long walk with a friend to boost your endorphins (happy hormones).
  • Redecorate or shift things around in your home. Uplift the energy of your space.
  • Unplug even for a few hours so you can read a book, journal, color, or complete that year-old art project in your closet.
  • Cook a new meal or order something different from usual in a restaurant.

Break from your routine and engage in spontaneous activities, even for a weekend or one day.

What do you do to be spontaneous? What activities do you enjoy?  Let me know in the comments below.
