Developing the Loving Relationship with Yourself

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” ~ Buddha

The most important relationship we all have is one with ourselves. Developing a loving relationship with yourself is time and effort worth investing in.

So why do we neglect our needs or speak unkindly about our bodies or talents? Why wouldn’t we fall in love with ourselves?

Loving and accepting ourselves unconditionally is taking action one step at a time, day by day. Self-love is needed to nourish us and provide the needs we usually look for outside of ourselves.

Love is a superpower. Love is a medicine that can soothe and soften our hearts.

Loving ourselves is about consistently taking action that feels aligned with your heart.

It motivates us to expand or slow down, dream big and go forward with our goals. Because love opens our hearts to see the beauty within and around us.

How can you love yourself more?

Start saying “No” when you need to.

Acknowledge when you want to say “Yes” but feel empty to give and be there for others. You need to replenish your energy and quiet your mind from a busy day. Let’s be honest here, giving from the full cup, not the empty one, serves you and others. It feels better, more aligned.

Get into a moment of silence or meditate. Use your breath to drop into your body and listen.

What is your body temple telling you? What nourishment does it need? More sleep, healthy food, change of habits, exercise, fresh air?

Schedule some time for you. Show up for yourself and set intentions no matter what you do.

  • Grab your favorite book and sip on your favorite drink.
  • Express yourself with art. Try a new cooking recipe. Check out the CREATIVE HUB gathering in person once a month.
  • Put on uplifting music while washing dishes, cleaning, or doing laundry. Sing and dance. Spend some time with yourself here.
  • Take a hot bath with your favorite essential oils, or devote time to any self-care routine to nourish your body.
  • Take a walk outside, feel the sun’s kisses and the wind on your face, inhale some fresh air, and watch nature awaken from its winter slumber.
  • Give yourself a special time each morning. Check Morning Rituals.

Please remember that loving yourself is an ongoing practice. It takes time to be gentle, loving, and compassionate to all of you 24/7.

It’s normal for us to seek answers and validation outside of ourselves. So I encourage you to take a couple of deep breaths, put your hands to your heart, and ask, “What do you need to feel loved?”

Here are some questions to keep you started:

  • What does self-love mean and look like to you?
  • How can you love yourself more?
  • What activities soothe your mind, body, and soul?

Make an effort to do something nice for yourself and fill your heart with joy and love. Embrace yourself with kindness. You need it, and you deserve it.
